Daniel Thomas Davis | Follow Her Voice
On 2nd November 2012 Charmian will be recording Daniel Thomas Davis’ new song-cycle Follow Her Voice, based on the Sappho frangment phainetai moi, with Lontano and conducted by Odaline de la Martinez. Charmian is particularly excited by this project as the Catullus poem also based on the same text (and the libretto for the second song in the cycle) was the first Latin poetry she studied at school which consequently encouraged her to read Classics at university. Details on the release of this disc to follow.
Recital | American Festival of Contemporary Music
Charmian opens the Fourth London Festival of American Music performing Peter Child’s Clare Cycle (UK premiere) and the world premiere performance of Daniel Thomas Davis’ Follow Her Voice with Lontano ensemble conducted by Odaline de la Martinez.

A Full Moon in March | John Harbison
Charmian performs the role of 1st Attendent in John Harbison’s one act chamber opera A Full Moon in March based on the Yeats play.
Conducted by Odaline de la Martinez and directed by Carmen Jakobi. Performances are part of the Fourth London Festival of American Music and take place at the Warehouse, Waterloo on 24th 26th and 27th October 2012 at 7.45pm
Christopher Gibbons | Premiere CD recording released
Motets, anthems, fantasias and voluntaries by Christopher Gibbons (second son of Orlando). Charmian features as a soloist on this exciting new release by the Academy of Ancient Music.

Opera di Peroni | Go Opera
GO OPERA teams up with Kwes (digital musician) and Peroni Nastro Azurro to create a site-specific, operatic experience. Charmian will perform Musetta in a set of immersive Italian opera scenes, also including excerpts from Puccini’s La rondine and Verdi’s La traviata. Performances in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow throughout July and August 2012.

Silver Swan | Clod Ensemble
Silver Swan is an ensemble piece written for seven unaccompanied female singers, by Paul Clark. Taking two simple 17th Century songs by John Smith and William Lawes, the piece weaves their melodies into a dense and beautifully haunting texture.
Performed this time in the cavernous Turbine Hall in the Tate Modern on 21st and 28th May 2012 with dancers as a ‘choreographed concert’. Conducted by James Keane. Please visit www.clodensemble.com for further information
David Bedford | Memorial Concert
Charmian is particularly honoured to take part in a very special memorial concert celebrating the life of David Bedford (1937-2011), distinguished, British composer. She will perform some of Bedford’s settings of Kenneth Patchen’s poems, along with other performers including Andrew Staples, Steuart Bedford, Stephen Westrop and Herbie Flowers.
All family, friends, colleagues and associates are welcome.

La Grande Chapelle | Lauda Musica
Charmian joined Lauda Musica for a performance of the Spanish composer – Nicolas Zabala’s Te deum and Magnificat in Cadiz in a concert for the bicentennial celebration of the 1812 Spanish constitution. Directed by Albert Recasens.

Dream Hunter | Nicola LeFanu
Charmian premiered the role of Catarina in Nicola LeFanu’s new opera in October 2011 in Aberystwyth, Swansea and Cardiff. The opera now returns for 3 special performances at Wiltons Music Music Hall in London. Listen to Charmian on BBC3’s In Tune on Monday 30th January 2012 at 5pm for a sample of the opera.
